SHOOT US!
with Alberto Monreal
2021

As a reactivation of the performance “Shoot” by Chris Burden (1971), the performance is tied to a discourse on violence. We become the mutual victims of our own steps. With the ends of a rope tied around our necks with slip knots, we turn our backs on each other. Ten questions are asked with a double rule: if the people answer “yes”, we move closer and the rope is loosened. If they answer “no”, we move away and, consequently, choke each other.

The people are our weap on whose answers are more dangerous the kinder they pretend to be. The most extreme situations occur when the answer is not unanimous; in our desperation for the answer, we pull the string even tighter. When attendees learn that “answering yes” means saving us, they use it regardless of what they really think, even fighting amongst each other.
